My work delves into the timeless mystique of crows and ravens—creatures steeped in symbolism as harbingers of change, keepers of secrets, and bridges between the earthly and the divine. Each illustration begins with meticulous pen and ink drawings, where every posture and feather becomes a meditation on their silent wisdom. These avian muses are more than subjects; they are messengers—guides through the layered narrative of my process, poised between the tangible and the transcendent.
Around their forms, I weave sacred geometry—a visual language of universal patterns that evokes the balance inherent in cosmic design. Watercolor gradients flow through the compositions, infusing them with a sense of the infinite—the fleeting glow of twilight or the iridescent shimmer of a distant horizon. To this, I add textures of deterioration and corrosion, a reminder of the beauty found in decay and transformation. Old-world maps, overlays of vintage handwriting, and celestial flourishes borrowed from the pages of old books form a rich and textured backdrop. Layered and intertwined, these elements evoke a sense of history and exploration, as if they emerged from the pages of an ancient dream.
Each illustration is transformed into a Giclée print of the highest quality, ensuring that every detail—the precision of ink, the subtle hues of watercolor, the grain of corrosion—remains vivid. The final expression of each piece is deeply tied to its home. I source vintage and antique picture frames from curated secondhand collections and specialty shops, allowing the unique character of each frame to inform the scale and tone of the artwork. These frames, weathered by time and imbued with their own histories, serve as a bridge between the past and the present, encapsulating the essence of preservation and transformation.
Through this blend of illustration, symbolism, and restoration, I aim to connect the viewer to liminal spaces—where nature and geometry, history and myth, decay and beauty converge. Each piece is a story waiting to be discovered, housed in a frame that whispers of forgotten lives and places, now given new purpose. My work offers a glimpse into the extraordinary of the overlooked and the sacred in the fleeting shadows of wings.
